Fallout 76: Should Vendors Be Allowed to Have More Caps?

In Fallout 76, Caps are the primary currency used for trading, purchasing supplies, and acquiring rare items from vendors. However, one common frustration among players is the limited number of Caps that vendors possess. This restriction often forces players to hop between servers or wait for vendor inventories to reset, slowing down their in-game economy. The question arises: Should vendors in Fallout 76 be allowed to hold more Caps?

The Current Cap Limit

As of now, most vendors in Fallout 76 have a shared pool of 1,400 Caps per day. Once players exhaust this limit, they must either switch servers or wait 20 hours for a reset. For high-level players who frequently sell valuable loot, this system can feel restrictive, especially when trying to maximize profits from legendary gear, bulk junk, or excess aid items.

Pros of Increasing Vendor Caps

  1. Better Player Economy – Allowing vendors to hold more Fallout 76 Caps would streamline trading, letting players sell more items without server-hopping.

  2. Reduced Grind – Players spend less time managing vendor limits and more time exploring Appalachia.

  3. Encourages Trading – With higher vendor Caps, players might engage more in vendor-based transactions rather than relying solely on player-to-player trades.

Potential Downsides

  1. Inflation Risk – If vendors offer too many Caps, the in-game economy could suffer from inflation, making high-value items even more expensive.

  2. Less Player Interaction – If vendors provide enough Caps, some players might avoid trading with others, reducing community engagement.

  3. Balance Issues – Bethesda may need to adjust item prices or introduce new sinks to prevent Caps from becoming too abundant.

Possible Solutions

Instead of a flat increase, Bethesda could implement scaling vendor Caps based on player level or introduce dynamic vendor economies where high-traffic areas (like Whitespring or Foundation) offer more Caps. Alternatively, a separate "premium vendor" with a higher Cap limit (but stricter item restrictions) could be introduced.

While increasing vendor Caps in Fallout 76 would ease the grind for many players, it must be done carefully to avoid disrupting the game's economy. A balanced approach—such as incremental increases or level-based scaling—could improve the experience without negative side effects.
